| BUSINESS John directed MARKETING RESEARCH, BUSINESS PLANNING AND PILOT TESTING for new interactive services for American Television & Communications Corporation (now Time-Warner). He oversaw and managed the marketing, public affairs and technical services of cable television systems serving consumers and businesses in large and small markets.
John provided PRODUCT MANAGEMENT AND MARKETING for X*PRESS Information Services, a groundbreaking project funded by Tele-Communications, Inc. (TCI) and McGraw-Hill to deliver satellite information services to cable subscribers. The service was showcased with British Columbia Television at the Vancouver World’s Fair and later adapted for use by “The Nightly Business Report” of the Public Broadcasting Service.
John pioneered the “MMI Knowledge Network” for TECHNOLOGY-ASSISTED LEARNING for MMI Companies, an international healthcare management company (NYSE:MMI, now acquired by St. Paul Insurance). He formed the firm’s Knowledge Management Committee reporting to the corporate Board of Directors, and prototyped online “distance learning” with content experts, curriculum developers and technologists providing education to healthcare professionals in the U.S. and Europe. He led a major engagement to develop the COMPREHENSIVE INFORMATICS STRATEGY for a 10-hospital healthcare system in the Midwest.
John directed REGIONAL OPERATIONS for Atlanta Technologies, providing TELECOMMUNICATIONS for clients such as Duke University, Westinghouse, Pfizer Chemical, Texas Gulf and the University of North Carolina Medical Center.
GOVERNMENT
John received a Special Recognition Award and two Outstanding Performance Awards in the Executive Office of the President for his start-up and management of a WHITE HOUSE MEDIA CAMPAIGN — a $2 billion, 5-year program in concert with major advertising, public relations, news and community organizations. He participated in all phases of formative research, branding and positioning, creative development, distribution, community engagement, management integrity and evaluation. John developed core strategy and led the campaign’s AWARD-WINNING ONLINE INITIATIVES in collaboration with Bates USA, Ogilvy & Mather, ABC/Disney, America Online and others. He developed campaign strategies, coordinated Congressional and public presentations and worked with business and community stakeholders nationwide.
John was appointed as SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY TEAM LEADER for the White House National Performance Review Task Force (NPR), the White House "reinventing government initiative.” In other roles, John has conducted extensive studies, publication, policy development and implementation for the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the Congressional General Accounting Office (GAO) and the U.S. Peace Corps. He directly supported a U.N. Special Session and represented the U.S. before senior officials in seven countries.
BACKGROUND
Following graduation from the UNITED STATES AIR FORCE ACADEMY, where he was named Outstanding Graduate in Humanities, John served as an Air Force officer in Vietnam. He received the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal and is an Honor Graduate of the Armed Forces Air Intelligence Training Center.
John holds a Masters degree in journalism from the UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO, where he was selected as a University Graduate Fellow; and a Masters degree in management and policy analysis from the UNIVERSITY OF DENVER, where he received the Colorado Governor’s Award. He was selected in the first class as a PRESIDENTIAL MANAGEMENT INTERN. |
